USA Reopening Borders – LATEST UPDATES
April 12 – USA / UK, may have a travel corridor in the summer
The US government is considering lifting the travel ban to the 27 EU Member States, plus the UK and Brazil. It would not be a complete survey at once. The United States would reopen areas where people are fully vaccinated and where the rate of infection remains low. This could happen in mid-May.
On the other hand, the UK government recently spoke about a new “traffic light” system for international travel that will allow travelers from certain areas to leave the country; vaccination distribution and infection rate depending. Local media started talking about a potential travel corridor with the United States as soon as they can leave the country legally on June 30.
March 30 – COVID-19 cases increase 13% nationwide
According to CDC data, 15% of the American population has already received two full doses of the vaccine against COVID-19. However, in the past week the country has seen a 13% increase in new infections with more than 63,000 cases per day across the country.
Michigan is the state with the most new infections and most hospitalizations after a month of easing restrictions.
Last week, Congressman Brian Higgins, along with some members of the Canadian government, talked about a plan to reopen land borders. But with the fourth wave of coronavirus cases approaching, those plans are likely to be postponed.
Quarantines or tests for domestic travelers are no longer needed in 31 states. Alabama, Mississippi and Texas went a step further and suspended mandatory mask orders, as well as other state restrictions.
Restrictions still apply in California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington state (as well as Washington DC). Source
South Africa was recently added to the list of countries banned from entering the United States due to the new highly contagious strain first discovered in its territory.
The US vaccinated 12.4% of its population, with 4.9% of people receiving both doses of the vaccine. Vaccines are being administered as soon as they are distributed, which has been a very successful campaign.
As of January 26, all air passengers entering the United States, including US citizens and permanent residents, must have a negative COVID PCR test. The decision was announced by the CDC due to new highly contested COVID strains. Check the frequently asked questions answered on CNN.

What are the state-related restrictions in the different states of the USA?
After so many months of high transmission of COVID-19 cases and local restrictions, foreign visitors may wish to travel again or visit family and friends in other states. For things to go smoothly, it is important to keep up with the constant fluctuation of rules and regulations.
Some states may ask travelers to provide proof of negative COVID-19 test, quarantine on arrival or submit a travel statement and self-isolation plan; some other states may only allow them to travel freely between cities or interstates.
To be sure of what to do and avoid problems when leaving or returning home, travelers can find up-to-date information about each state in US state-by-state travel restrictions
Other requirements to consider
To gain access to the United States, travelers can rely on a wide variety of factors, including, but not limited to, whether they are foreign or domestic, the countries they have recently visited, their visa status, the states where they should land when they arrive in the country, their current state of health or even their commitment to comply with local regulations.
Therefore, as updates to rules and regulations can be released without notice, it is highly recommended that everyone check the embassy website for unexpected changes and local news for permanent updates on local policies in each state.
